The Subway sandwich shop at the corner of Christie Avenue and 64th was robbed at gunpoint this morning at about 10:47 am.. The news was circulated In an email addressed to residents of Avenue 64 and Emme who are operated by Essex Residential. “We share your concern about this incident and are fully cooperating with local authorities who are investigating the matter,” they explained.

A male suspect reportedly entered the shop while only an employee was present, brandished a weapon and demanded money. The employee complied and the suspect made off with about $300 from the register and the phone of the employee. The employee, who was startled but uninjured, then fled the store and alerted a passerby who called authorities.

Nick Depaula, an Avenue 64th resident who was out walking his dog on a rainy Friday, confirmed he had received the alert from Essex. “Yeah, it’s kinda jarring.” Depaula expressed that he mostly felt safe in the neighborhood but he’s noticed more auto burglaries and what he described as people who appeared to be working in teams peering into car windows. He also recalled the recent strong-arm robberies that occurred nearby in November that were concerning for the neighborhood. Depaula has lived in Emeryville with his girlfriend for about a year.

“It’s upsetting how these sort of incidents keep happening more and more often,” noted a resident via email who identified herself as Maria. “Hopefully we can shed some light on these issues and work together as a community to solve them!”

  1. This one is a little too close for comfort.

I wonder how EPD feels about CCW.

Everyone would be safer if there were more people legally carrying firearms for personal defense.
