The September 2017 Emeryville Crime report saw 237 total crimes reported for the month (up from 217 in August or +9%). Aggravated assault reports saw an unusual spike in activity with 15 reported incidents for a violent crime category that averages only 6 per month. 14 of these reports were in the District 5 area that includes Bay Street and the Powell Street Plaza shopping areas. Aggravated assault reports for the year are seeing a troubling 81% increase from last year.

Emeryville registered its first Homicide since the beating death of Hayok “Miss Kay” in 2015. The I-80 shooting death of a homicide suspect by Richmond and Fairfield police is captured under our city’s jurisdiction per the FBI Uniform Crime Reporting methods. The shooting is currently being investigated to determine if it was justified as reported.

The EPD completed their migration to new crime statistic platform by LexisNexis that provides more detailed analytics of crime in our city including a “heat map” layer and customizable filters.

Total crimes reported for the year are on an +15% trajectory from 2016.
