November 2018 Emeryville Crime Report: Robberies Jump, Burglaries Fall

The November 2018 Emeryville Crime Report saw 218 total crimes reported for the month (down slightly from the 225 reported in October). Robberies for the month reached double figures and are up 16% percent from last year. Overall, violent crime is up 6% from last year and property crime is down 15%.

Overall, crimes reported for 2018 are on an 13% downward trajectory from last year.

REPORTING DISTRICT MATRIX:

The reporting district matrix lists the category and number of crimes reported by district. The descriptions below are “highlights” and are not provided for every crime reported.


ROBBERY:

District 3

6300 block of Christie Ave.: A strong-arm robbery occurred. LOSS: Cell phone and keys. Victim: female. Suspects: (2) females, no further description. All parties involved were a part of SWAP (Sheriff’s Work Alternative Program). The victim is uncooperative.

District 5

Jos A. Bank, 5755 Christie Ave.: A strong-arm robbery occurred. A man who appeared homeless filled a paper bag with clothing, punched the store clerk on the face and left the area. Suspect: Male, 5’9”, stocky build, 30-40 years old, dirty appearance wearing a light purple shirt and black pant. LOSS: Multiple clothing items.

LensCrafters, 5707 Christie Ave.: A strong-arm robbery occurred. A male and female entered the store. The female pointed out eyeglass frames as the male selected them from the display. Both suspects proceeded to walk out of the store without paying. The store clerk attempted to block the door, however the male suspect rammed the store clerk with his shoulder, and both suspects then fled the area. LOSS: (8) pairs of eyeglass frames.

Vans, 5671 Bay St.: A strong-arm robbery occurred. A shoplifter took a pair of shoes from the store clerk by force and fled the area. Suspect: Male, thin build with multiple tattoos.

District 7

Parking lot of CVS Pharmacy, 4349 San Pablo Ave.: A strong-arm robbery occurred. Three male juveniles robbed another male juvenile of his cell phone. LOSS: iPhone X.

District 8

40th & Adeline St.: An attempted robbery with a firearm occurred. A male victim was walking home from Best Buy when a suspect in a vehicle pulled up next to the victim and exited the vehicle with a gun in his hand. The suspect demanded the victim’s belongings, however the victim fled the area on foot and notified police. EPD checked the area and apprehended the suspect.

U.S. Spring, 3637 Adeline St.: A strong-arm robbery occurred. The victim was an employee. LOSS: $600 cash, a cell phone and vehicle: 2004 Toyota Tacoma truck – recovered by Pleasant Hill P.D. The suspect is known to the victim. Suspect: Male, early 50s, 5’7”, wearing a black and white hat, black jacket, and blue jeans.

District 9

Home Depot, 3838 Hollis St.: A strong-arm robbery occurred. A security guard attempted to detain a female for shoplifting. The female punched the security guard on the chin to avoid detention and fled with the merchandise. The security guard was able to recover the loss as the suspect fled to a vehicle and left the area. LOSS/Recovered: Battery pack.

IFO Ulta, 3839 Emery St., #200: A strong-arm robbery occurred. A male suspect who appeared homeless robbed two juveniles, 12 and 15 years old, of their bicycle and fled the area. Suspect: Male, 30s-40s, wearing a black coat and gray hat.

Pak n Save, 3889 San Pablo Ave.: A strong-arm robbery occurred. A male shoplifter sprayed an employee in the face with pepper spray and fled with a handcart full of store merchandise.

AGGRAVATED ASSAULT:

District 3

64XX Shellmound St. #XXXX: A domestic violence incident resulted in a male choking and pointing a gun at his girlfriend. EPD arrested the suspect shortly thereafter.

District 4

1900 block of Powell (Watergate Towers area): A road rage incident resulted in a motorist bumping a bicyclist’s rear tire with his vehicle at slow speed.

District 8

ECAP, 3610 San Pablo Ave.: A male suspect punched and hit an ECAP volunteer with a chain. The suspect fled the area on a bicycle.

District 9

Pak n Save parking lot: Three females jumped on another female causing an injury that required stitches. No further information. The victim was uncooperative.

Public Storage, 6501 Shellmound St.: POE: Storage unit – Lock cut. LOSS: (2) Tennis rackets.

District 5

BevMo, 5717 Christie Ave.: POE: Front door – Glass break. LOSS: (2) Cases of Patron gift sets.

District 7

Emeryville City Hall, 1333 Park Ave.: POE: Unknown. LOSS: Food from the break room.
ECCL Emery High school, 1100 47th St.: POE: Window – Smash. LOSS: Art supplies. Suspects: (3) males wearing hoodies with the hoods pulled close around their faces.

District 8

Escuela Bilingue Internacional, 4550 San Pablo Ave.: POE: Tool Shed – Pried. LOSS: Miscellaneous tools.


RESIDENTIAL BURGLARY:

District 3

63XX Christie Ave.: POE: Front door – Key used. LOSS: A bicycle, (2) laptops, a safe, clothing, and a social security card.

District 8

36XX Peralta St.: POE: Unlocked studio. LOSS: Radio, cordless drill, and a modem.


AUTO THEFT:

Of the 15 vehicles reported stolen:

  • 9 vehicle was recovered intact
  • 2 vehicles were recovered but damaged
  • 4 vehicle is still outstanding
