May 2019 Emeryville Crime Report: Officer Injured by Resisting Suspect, Arson Suspected in Home Depot Fire, Auto Burgs on Torrid Pace

3 mins read

The May, 2019 Emeryville Crime Report saw 210 total crimes reported for the month (up slightly from the 206 reported in April).

Among the crimes spotlighted for the month was the report of an Emeryville officer injured during a struggle following a traffic enforcement stop. According to the report, the officer sustained a leg injury that required medical attention. The officer was taken to a local hospital and is reported to be “doing well” and recovering at home. The driver was arrested for multiple charges.

In addition, Auto Burglaries are on a torrid pace with another triple digit tally for the month. There was an encouraging drop in 2018 but 2019 is on pace to smash (no pun intended) the record 2017 total of 1277 with a projected 1,433 pace.

Another crime of note is the May 5th fire at Home Depot was logged as a report of Arson. Preliminary findings indicate the fire may have been intentionally started and the Alameda County Fire Department’s Arson Unit performed an investigation. The Fire to their rear storage area caused a reported $160,000 in damages.

Overall, crimes reported for 2019 are on an 19% upward trajectory from last year.
