June 2019 Emeryville Crime Report: 93% Residential Burglary Increase Leads 22% YTD Crime Jump

The June, 2019 Emeryville Crime Report saw 243 total crimes reported for the month (up dramatically from the 210 reported in May).

Auto burglaries (+48%), Grand Theft (+41%) and Residential Burglaries (+93%) comprise the highest increases year-over-year (YOY) from 2018 to 2019. Auto Thefts represented the sharpest decline YOY with a -33% drop from this time last year.

Officers handled a total of 2585 incidents in June. These responses included 17 incidents where officers were dispatched to evaluate an individual to determine if they required an Emergency Psychiatric Detention and 47 suspicious incidents (person or vehicle). Officers responded to 135 theft related calls and recovered seven stolen vehicles.

Arrests for the month included 65 adults and 0 (zero) juveniles.

Overall, crimes reported for 2019 are on an 22% upward trajectory from last year.

Robbery:

District 2

67th/Hollis St.: A strong-arm robbery occurred. SUSPECTS: (2) Males, 20-25 years old, 5’8”, stocky builds, both wearing black shirts and black/white checkered pants. LOSS: (2) Purses and (2) Cell phones.

District 3

67th/Shellmound St.: A strong-arm robbery occurred. SUSPECTS: Male, 20 years old, curly hair, 5’10”, stocky build wearing a red track suit. LOSS: Backpack containing a laptop and miscellaneous items. SUSPECT VEHICLE: 7XMJ??? older sedan, white, with two awaiting occupants.

District 5

Zumiez, 5616 Bay St: A strong-arm robbery occurred. SUSPECTS: (2) Shoplifters, #1 Female, 20 years old, 5’5”, skinny build wearing gray jacket. #2 Male, 20 years old, 6’0”, medium build, wearing a black jacket and dark blue pants. LOSS: Clothing. SUSPECT VEHICLE: A red or silver sedan with one awaiting male occupant.

At Sunglass Hut, 5673 Bay St.: A strong-arm robbery occurred. SUSPECTS: (1) Female shoplifter, 23-24 years old. LOSS: (3) pair of Sun glasses. SUSPECT VEHICLE: 8HIW2?? Chrysler Pacifica, white in color with one awaiting female occupant.

District 7

San Pablo Ave./40th St.: A robbery at gunpoint occurred. SUSPECT: Male, 5’8”, heavy build wearing a black ski mask and all dark clothing. The suspect was riding a bicycle. LOSS: $800 cash.

District 9

ULTA, 3839 Emery St., #200: A robbery at knifepoint occurred. SUSPECTS: Transients. (1) male, and (1) female. LOSS: (2) Bottles of cologne. EPD arrested the suspects shortly thereafter.

Home Depot, 3838 Hollis St.: A robbery at knifepoint occurred. SUSPECT: Male (prior theft suspect). SUSPECT VEHICLE: KIA, blue in color. LOSS: Batteries.

Aggravated Assault

District 3

Parking lot of Denny’s, 1776 Powell St.: A shooting occurred. A Male suspect fired two rounds at another male. The victim escaped injury. SUSPECT: Male, 6’0”, wearing a black shirt and blue jeans.

District 7

Parking lot of CVS 4349 San Pablo Ave.: A domestic violence incident regarding money resulted in a male choking his partner with a “club”. EPD arrested the suspect shortly thereafter.

District 8

The Bank Club, 3900 San Pablo Ave.: A female struck another female on the head and arm with a broom handle and fled the area.

District 9

12XX 40th St.: A fight between male roommates resulted in one roommate swinging a knife at the other roommate.


Commercial Burglary

District 2

AYAR Labs, 6460 Hollis St.: POE: Unknown – No signs of forced entry. LOSS: (8) Dell monitors, (1) 65” TV, (1) Computer, and miscellaneous AV equipment.

Sunderstorm Bay, LLC, 6613 Hollis St.: POE: Roll up door. LOSS: Miscellaneous Merchandise.

District 8

Touch of Soul, 4336 San Pablo Ave.: POE: Unknown – No signs of forced entry. LOSS: $40 cash/coins.


Residential Burglary

District 1

55XX Beaudry St.: POE: Window – Smashed. LOSS: Unknown.


AUTO THEFT:

Of the 6 vehicles reported stolen:

  • 3 vehicles were recovered intact
  • 1 vehicles was recovered but damaged or stripped
  • 1 report was a motorcycle
  • 1 report was an attempted theft
