January 2017 Crime Report: Carjacking on San Pablo, 94 Auto Burglaries reported

The first monthly Emeryville Crime Report report of 2017 saw the surge in crime continue in our city. January saw 238 total crimes reported (up from 210 in January or +13%). There were 25 Violent crimes including the first Carjacking since July of 2016, and 213 Property crimes. Emeryville averaged 198 crimes reported per month in 2016.

The City of Emeryville is divided into small geographical areas that facilitate the Department’s efforts to tract crime and neighborhood problems, and allocate personnel resources to meet the service need. Crime statistics are reported by the EPD through CrimeReports.com. An archive of monthly crime statistics provided can be viewed on the city website.

The reporting district matrix lists the category and number of crimes reported by district. The descriptions below are “highlights” and are not provided for every crime reported.


CARJACKING:

District 8

IFO Open Up Cuts Barber Shop, 4340 San Pablo Ave.: A male victim was robbed of his backpack and car jacked. The suspect jammed a hard dark metallic object into the victim’s back. The victim thought the object may have been a gun. Victim Vehicle: 7TCT900 2007 BMW 650 2D Red. Suspect: Male, unknown race, wearing dark clothing.

ROBBERY:

District 5

Starbucks, 5767 Christie Ave.: A female sitting inside at a table was robbed of her laptop. Another female standing out front was robbed of her purse. The suspects fled the area in a stolen vehicle. Suspect #1 Black male, 20-25 years old, 5’10”, black hair, wearing a gray sweatshirt and red pants. Suspect#2 Black male, 20-25 years old, wearing a gray sweatshirt.
5700 block of Christie Ave.: A female was robbed of her wallet. Suspect#1 Black male, 25 years old, 6’0”, 210 lbs., wearing a black hoodie. Suspect#2 Black female, 5’5”, 160 lbs., black shirt and black head scarf.

District 8

3850 San Pablo Ave.: An elderly female was followed into the elevator and robbed of her I.D. holder and cell phone. Suspect#1 Black male, 5’10”, wearing a gray shirt and dress shoes.
4404 Adeline St.: Two suspects, one armed with a knife, the other armed with a blunt object, approached the victim and demanded the victim’s watch, car keys, wallet and cell phone. The victim pressed the panic alarm on his key fob, which scared off the suspects. There was no loss. Suspects: (2) Black males, 17-19 years old, 5’8”, wearing all dark clothing.

District 9

Ulta, 3839 Emery St., #200: Two suspects entered the store and concealed merchandise. Suspect #1 brandished a taser when she was confronted by the store manager. Both suspects fled to a stolen vehicle driven by a third suspect. LOSS: Multiple bottles of Fragrances. Suspects #1 Black female, 35-36 years old, 5’6”, 240 lbs., **Armed with a taser**, wearing a black hoodie, gray shirt, black leggings, pink socks, and black shoes. Suspect#2 Black male, wearing a black hoodie with white writing, blue jeans, and white and red Jordan shoes. Suspect#3 Unknown. Suspect Vehicle: 1997 Nissan Maxima 4D black, recovered by Oakland P.D.
IFO Starbucks, 3839 Emery St., #800: Two suspects got out of a vehicle, threw the victim to the ground and robbed the victim of his backpack. The suspects got back in their vehicle and fled the area. Suspects: (2) Black males, 20-30 years old, no further description.


AGGRAVATED ASSAULT:

District 5

Christie Ave & Shellmound St.: An unknown suspect(s) fired multiple gun shots resulting in two victims being shot. In addition, a motorist’s vehicle was struck by bullets. Suspect Vehicle: Silver or white 4-Door sedan.
Apple Store, 5640 Bay St.: A male subject picked up a chair and threatened to hit an employee because he was asked to leave the store. Suspect: White male, 6’1” 150 lbs., wearing blue jeans and a gray sweater. EPD arrested the suspect shortly thereafter.

District 7

Parking lot behind IHOP, 4101 San Pablo Ave.: A domestic violence incident occurred in which, the male half tried to slam the females’ head into the windshield of the vehicle, and he repeatedly tried to slam the victim’s arm in the car door. The suspect fled prior to our arrival. Suspect: Black male, 5’11”, 195 lbs.


COMMERCIAL BURGLARY:

District 1

DTC Grip & Electric, 1280 65th St.: POE: Glass entry door – Smashed. An unknown suspect smashed the entry door glass, entered the business, then walked out of the business. LOSS: None. Suspect: White or Hispanic male, 21-26 years old, wearing a dark colored hooded jacket, a hat, baggy blue jeans and gloves.

District 5

It’s Sugar, 5624 Bay St., #A: POE: Rear door – Unlocked. Unknown suspects ransacked the rear office and defeated three safes. LOSS: $4,078.79.
Apple Store, 5640 Bay St.: A customer attempted to use another person’s account information to upgrade two new iPhone 7s. The suspect left the store and attempted to commit the same crime at the Walnut Creek store, but was subsequently arrested. Suspect: Hispanic male, 5’7”, 200 lbs., wearing a black Adidas baseball cap and hooded sweatshirt.

District 6

Icon Apartments, 1401 Park Ave., (Garage): A male transient unlawfully entered the garage, was casing vehicles, and broke into a parked vehicle. Additionally, the suspect stole a bicycle from a private balcony. EPD arrested the suspect shortly thereafter, recovered the loss from the burgled vehicle and recovered the bicycle. Suspect: Black male, 5’7”, 165 lbs.


RESIDENTIAL BURGLARY:

District 4

Emeryville Marina, 3310 Powell St., #B22: An unknown suspect unlawfully entered the boat, stole jewelry and pain medication.


AUTO THEFT:

Of the 19 vehicles reported stolen:

  • 11 vehicles were recovered intact
  • 1 report was an attempted theft
  • 1 vehicle was recovered damaged
  • 1 vehicle was recovered with minor striping
  • 5 vehicles are still outstanding
