A selection of Emeryville-centric articles from around the web that residents might find of interest:

Aquatic Park getting some much-needed attention

Our friends at Berkeleyside are reporting that one of the most promising but neglected areas in the city is finally getting some attention. Aquatic Park, better known for being a “Cruising” spot (and site of a recent violent assault on a Police officer), will be getting family recreational amenities including bike rentals, a revamped community meeting space and possibly a small indoor coffee bar (Photo: “Berkeley’s civic eyesore” on SFGate).

Emeryville prefab home spotlighted in Dwell

Simpatico Homes, run by Emeryville Based architectural firm Swatt Miers, places a strong emphasis on affordability. The company’s prototype home in Emeryville (located at 5507 Beaudry), in which resident Seth Krubiner
has lived since late 2011, was created in a San Jose factory for around $270 per square foot, far less than the $400-plus-per-square-foot price tag of
the lowest-priced custom homes.

American Steel Studios trying to “Green Up” West Oakland Area

Our neighbors in West Oakland are well-known as the birth place of so much of the pyrotechnic art seen at Burning Man. However, amidst the smell of burning butane and steel girders at American Steel Studios, a green space designer named Nick Gardner is working to plant a vertical garden across part of a wall at the six-acre factory. The project will not only feature 2,000 square foot patch of succulents, but also a rainwater fed irrigation system, as well as array of solar panels to make the entire system sustainable.
