Following a multi-month search, and after a diligent review of 19 highly qualified candidates, the Emery Unified School District Board of Trustees has unanimously selected Dr. Quiauna Scott as their lone finalist for the EUSD Superintendent position.

“Dr. Scott has the experience and the poise to help our district reach the next level academically”, said EUSD Board President Cruz J Vargas. “She’ll lead an exceptional team at Emery that during the last year has been successful on changing our school culture for the better”.

Dr. Quiauna Scott has 19 years of service in public education. She served as an elementary teacher, middle school teacher and administrator at K-8, middle and high school settings. In addition, she served as adjunct faculty at Concordia University and a leadership coach with Alameda County Office of Education. Dr. Scott has served as a Director of Instruction (K-12) for the past five years at New Haven Unified School District. Here, she was involved in the curriculum development, project based learning, college and career readiness with a strong focus on personalized learning, leadership development, technology and student achievement.

Dr. Scott has a bachelor’s degree in sociology and master’s degree in education from the University of California Los Angeles, a master’s degree in administration from Pepperdine University, and a doctorate in Educational Leadership for Social Justice from the California State University East Bay. She is married with two school-aged children.

“I am truly honored to have been chosen as the new superintendent of Emery Unified School District and look forward to working collaboratively with the school board, staff, students, parents and community,” said Dr. Quiauna Scott. “I am impressed by the rich diversity and genuine care from the community for the students and staff. This is a district that I am proud to join and I am confident that Emery is a district aligned to my vision and beliefs.”

The Superintendent search process was as unique as Emeryville’s spirit. The community had opportunities to provide input in-person, including a full-day session on Thursday, May 26th and a half-day input session on Saturday, June 2nd. Through an open online survey, the district received input from over 80 participants. Over 60% of the input online came from parents/guardians. For the evaluation of candidates, the Emery Board of Trustees created a diverse 13-member advisory committee to ensure input from every key stakeholder category.

Dr. Scott was selected as a finalist with the help and support of the nationally recognized educational firm Leadership Associates. The board is scheduled to make an announcement at their June 14th regular meeting.
