Do you want Emeryville to be more Bike/Ped friendly? The East Bay Bicycle Coalition is soliciting the public to determine which pending projects they should dedicate their lobbying resources to supporting. Amongst the list of 20 projects is the Christie Ave/Bay Trail Gap closure & street rehabilitation on segments of Hollis Street north of Powell Street. The project is currently the top-vote getter on the EBBC Alameda county poll … but will it happen?

Per Amber Evans, Emeryville’s Community Development Coordinator:
The City is awaiting a competitive funding announcement from Alameda County TAC this month. Our application was for $550,000. We have responded to two rounds of questions regarding the project. Our application included an aggressive schedule to coincide with the bridge opening  with projected completion in February 2015.

E’ville is poised to become a major hub of bicycle connectivity with the opening of the new Bay Bridge Eastern span on Labor Day and the piece-by-piece connection of the Bay Trail. The City of Emeryville’s Complete Pedestrian/Bike Plan can be viewed here.

Per The EBBC Blog:
Over the next four years, over $100 million will be programmed for new transportation projects in the East Bay, and all of these projects are required to accommodate bicyclists. This requirement is only a ‘policy’ however and won’t translate into new bikeways unless you help us make it a reality where you ride.
Take a look at this map showing the transportation projects currently applying for funding in Alameda County, and click on a project in your city. You’ll find out a bit about the project, where it is located, what type of bike improvements are included, if any at all, and for most of the projects who to contact to thank them for making bike improvements part of the project, or who to call to insist that they make your bike commute safer as part of these projects. Your calls to city staff asking for a bike lane can make a big difference, and your vote here will be shared with the Alameda County Transportation Commission. Below the map is a listing of each project, with similar details about project description and location.

[UPDATE] Emeryville was indeed awarded the Measure B/VRF Bike/Ped funds under the OBAG joint call for Christie and the City Council is accepting the $550,000 award on June 4th. No timetable has been established for the construction of this project yet.
