November 2017 Emeryville Crime Report: City Hall Robbed Again, Property Crime up staggering 23% for the Year

The November 2017 Emeryville Crime report saw 262 total crimes reported for the month (down from 291 in October or -11%). For the second time in as many months, our City Hall was burglarized. A reported Rape has doubled our city’s totals from last year.

Total crimes reported for the year are on an +20% trajectory from 2016.

The EPD completed their migration to new crime statistic platform by LexisNexis that provides more detailed analytics of crime in our city including a “heat map” layer and customizable filters.

The City of Emeryville is divided into small geographical areas that facilitate the Department’s efforts to tract crime and neighborhood problems, and allocate personnel resources to meet the service need. Crime statistics are reported by the EPD through CommunityCrimeMap.com. An archive of monthly crime statistics provided can be viewed on the city website.

The reporting district matrix lists the category and number of crimes reported by district. The descriptions below are “highlights” and are not provided for every crime reported.

RAPE:

District 1

6400 block of Vallejo St.: A sexual assault occurred in October, but was reported this month. The suspect is known to the victim.


ROBBERY:

District 3

65th/Christie Ave.: A strong-arm robbery occurred. LOSS: A purse and cell phone. Suspects: (2) Male adults.
6350 Christie Ave.: A strong-arm robbery occurred. LOSS: Cell phone. Suspects: (3) Male juveniles.

District 5

IFO 5674 Bay St.: A strong-arm robbery occurred. Loss: $25 cash. Suspects: (3) Male juveniles.
UNIQLO 5606 Bay St.: A male shoplifter used force to steal merchandise. EPD arrested the suspect shortly thereafter.
Sephora, 5626 Bay St.: A male shoplifter stole perfume and exited the store. Loss Prevention contacted the suspect who pulled a knife and made threats. EPD arrested the suspect shortly thereafter. The loss was recovered.
It’s Sugar 5624 Bay St.: A female shoplifter took merchandise by force and exited the store.
IFO H & M, 5630 Bay St.: Male suspects attempted to rob another male of his cell phone. No loss.

District 6

1500 block of Park Ave.: A strong-arm robbery occurred. LOSS: Tote bag containing an iPad, and fanny pack. (Tote bag recovered near the area, however the iPad was missing.) Suspects: (2) Male juveniles.

District 9

3800 block of Emery St. (at a food truck): An armed robbery occurred. LOSS: None. Suspect: Male wearing a mask and armed with a gun. The suspect fled the area.
Starbucks, 3839 Emery St.: A strong-arm robbery occurred. LOSS: Laptop. Suspects: (2) Male juveniles.
IFO Pak n Save, 3889 San Pablo Ave.: A strong-arm robbery occurred. LOSS: Cell phone. Suspects: (3) Males.

AGGRAVATED ASSAULT:

District 6

The Broken Rack, 5768 Peladeau St.: A fight between two men resulted in one man hitting the other man with a pool cue. EPD arrested one person shortly thereafter.


COMMERCIAL BURGLARY:

District 3

6301 Shellmound St. (construction site): An unknown suspect burglarized two tool boxes and stole multiple power tools.

District 6

1550 Park Ave.: POE: Rear roll up door and ground level windows – Pried open. LOSS: Copper wire.

District 7

Town Hall, 1333 Park Ave.: POE: Window. LOSS: Laptop, iPad (recovered), a key chain (recovered), a green cup (recovered), a first aid kit (recovered), coffee mate creamer (recovered), Neste café coffee (recovered). EPD arrested a female suspect shortly thereafter.

RESIDENTIAL BURGLARY:

District 6

1400 block of Park Ave.: An unknown suspect stole two bicycles from the bicycle rack located in an apartment garage.
1400 block of Park Ave.: Another bicycle was stolen from the bicycle rack located in an apartment garage.

District 8

1400 block of 45th St.: An attempted burglary occurred. An unknown suspect attempted to pry open the door to the storage room
where bicycles are kept.


AUTO THEFT:

Of the 18 vehicles reported stolen:

  • 6 vehicles were recovered intact
  • 4 vehicle was recovered but damaged
  • 1 vehicle had minor striping
  • 2 vehicles were motorcycles
  • 1 report was an attempted theft

  1. Its unfortunate that Emeryville attracts so many miscreant visitors. We loved our eight years at Watergate and miss the accessibility, but the prevalence of violent opportunism and a few disturbing encounters with criminal thuggery shunted us to the suburbs when we started our family.

  2. How “mindful” do we need to be before crime in Emeryville starts going down?

    Seems like our new Police chief needs to spend more focused on her day job.

    When crime is rising in your city, you need to get off the speaking circuit and get back on the beat. The community is funding your absence in auto glass.
