Two Carjackings including one in the normally calm Doyle St. Area highlight the August crime report (the first crimes of its type since March). The poor folks at Sunglass Hut continue to endure their share of commercial burglaries. Auto Burglaries and Petty Theft accounted for over 75% of crimes in the city for the month. Auto burglary in the retail-dense District 5 area and Petty theft in the combined District 9 & 10 East Bay Bridge Shopping Center area continue to account for a bulk of these (nearly 1/3 of all crimes reported). Simple Assaults (A misdemeanor) and Auto thefts saw the sharpest declines from last month. Four of the six vehicle thefts were recovered with (3) Vehicles recovered intact, (1) vehicle with damage, and (2) vehicles still outstanding. Honda Accords and Civics remain amongst the popular targets for car thieves.
