The May 2017 Emeryville Crime report saw 209 total crimes reported for the month (up from 201 in April or +4%). Auto burglaries experienced their third consecutive month of decline and the lowest monthly total since November 2016. Auto burglaries are by far still the largest statistical increase in the city in 2017 at +78%.
Emeryville experienced its third consecutive month with a reported rape. Two of the three reports were at the Courtyard by Marriott Hotel. Emeryville has already exceeded its reported rape total for the year with its third incident.
Crimes reported for the year are on an +14% trajectory from 2016.

RAPE:
District 5
Courtyard by Marriot, 5555 Shellmound St.: A rape occurred, the victim was acquainted with the suspect.
ROBBERY:
District 2
Starbucks, 1405 65th St.: Two male suspects grabbed two laptops from tables where victims were seated and fled. One of the victims caught up to the suspect. The victim and the suspect struggled over a laptop. The suspect gained control over the laptop and fled. The other suspect fled to a vehicle.
1338 Powell St.: An attempted robbery occurred. A male suspect armed with a gun approached a female while she was in her garage and demanded money. The suspect walked away after the victim told him she didn’t have any money.
District 5
American Eagle, 5653 Bay St.: Two female suspects used force to steal clothing from the store.
Forever 21, 5668 Bay St.: A male suspect attempted to take a customer’s cell phone by force. EPD arrested the suspect shortly thereafter.
In the parking lot of the Four Points Sheraton: Two male suspects attempted to rob a male victim while the victim was sitting in his car. The suspects were scared off and fled the area.
District 7
CVS Pharmacy, 4349 San Pablo Ave.: A male suspect used force to steal a bottle of tequila.
District 9
Home Depot, 3838 Hollis St.: A female suspect brandished a hypodermic needle at the Loss Prevention Officer and fled with the store merchandise.
Home Depot, 3838 Hollis St.: Two suspects were shoplifting. One suspect brandished a knife when they were approached by the Loss Prevention Officer. EPD arrested both suspects shortly thereafter.
Babies R Us, 3938 Horton St.: Three suspects, two females and one male, used force to steal a baby blanket set.
Pak N Save, 3889 San Pablo Ave.: A suspect brandished a box cutter at the store Security Officer and fled with store merchandise.
Pak N Save, 3889 San Pablo Ave.: A male suspect told employees he had a gun when he was confronted about shoplifting. EPD arrested the suspect shortly thereafter. There was no gun found.
Ulta, 3839 Emery St., #200: A male suspect used force to steal merchandise.
AGGRAVATED ASSAULT:
District 7
40th/San Pablo Ave.: A domestic violence incident resulted in a male slashing a knife at his girlfriend.The female sustained a few cuts on her hand. EPD arrested the suspect shortly thereafter.
District 9
Pak N Save, 3889 San Pablo Ave.: A suspect sprayed tear gas towards an employee who saw the suspect concealing merchandise in a bag. The suspect removed the merchandise from the bag and left the store.
IFO Ulta, 3839 Emery St., #200: A group of juveniles intimidated a homeless man. One of the juveniles from the group pepper sprayed the victim. EPD arrested the juvenile shortly thereafter.
RESIDENTIAL BURGLARY:
District 1
203 Liquid Sugar: POE: Garage door – Pried open. LOSS: Motobrecane Men’s road bicycle and a helmet. Additionally, a vehicle parked inside the garage was burglarized. LOSS: Fastrak.
1247 66th St.: POE: Front door – Dead bolt damaged. LOSS: Apple MacBook Pro Laptop.
District 7
5540 Doyle St., #B: POE: Unknown. LOSS: (3) Laptops, shoes, jewelry, luggage, and handbags.
ARSON:
District 3
Nady Systems, 6701 Shellmound St.: Unknown suspects set fire to the overgrown shrubbery. In District 8 in the 3800 block of San Pablo Ave., a structure fire occurred at the residential construction site.
AUTO THEFT:
Of the 14 vehicles reported stolen:
- 10 vehicles were recovered intact
- 2 reports were attempted thefts
- 2 vehicles are still outstanding
