January EPD Crime Report includes Biting Shoplifter, Buttocks-Grabbing Robber

The Emeryville Police Department Crime Report for January includes a total of 235 crimes highlighted by 27 Auto Burglaries in the shopping-laden District 5 area and 60 reports of petty theft in the combined District 9 & 10 areas of Target & Home Depot. Commercial Burglaries saw the steepest rise from last year with 12 reported crimes.

REPORTING DISTRICT MATRIX:

The reporting district matrix lists the category and number of crimes reported by district. The descriptions below are “highlights” and are not provided for every crime reported.


ROBBERY:

District 1:

5800 block of Vallejo St.: A residential robbery occurred. The suspect forced entry into the victim’s residence through the victim’s front door. The suspect wrapped his arms around the victim and then grabbed the victim’s buttocks. LOSS: None. Suspect: Black male, 6’2”, wearing a brown scarf, gray sweatshirt, and black pants.

District 2:

Alpha Void, 5900 Hollis St., #T1: Two suspects, one acting as a lookout, entered the business and stole several gaming consoles. A witness of the victim business confronted the suspects telling them to drop the property. One suspect verbally threatened to shoot the witness and both suspects fled the area. There was no gun seen. EPD responded to the area, arrested both suspects and recovered the loss.

District 8:

37th and San Pablo Ave.: Two suspects approached the victim as she exited her vehicle. One suspect pointed a gun as the other suspect took the victim’s purse.
1053 43rd St.: A residential robbery occurred. POE: Locked bathroom window. Loss: Backpack. EPD arrested the suspect shortly thereafter, outside of the victim’s residence.

District 10:

Target, 1555 40th St.: A shoplifter bit a Loss Prevention Agent and attempted to flee with the loss. LOSS/Recovered: Miscellaneous grocery and clothing items. EPD arrested the suspect shortly thereafter.


AGGRAVATED ASSAULT:

District 2:

65th St. and Hollis St.: A male suspect ran up to another male holding a knife in a low stabbing grip, then fled the area. The victim was not injured.

District 8:

Construction site on the 3900 block of Adeline St.: A male suspect, who made several attempts to steal, struck a Security Guard on the head with a metal pipe. EPD arrested the suspect shortly thereafter.
40th and Adeline St.: Unknown suspects threw bottles at two officers while they were conducting a traffic stop.


COMMERCIAL BURGLARIES:

District 1:

Bright Antenna, 1339 61st St.: POE: Window. LOSS: (2) Computers.

District 2:

5900 Hollis St. #K: POE: Door – Key and code entry. LOSS: Computer.

District 3:

Public Storage, 6501 Shellmound St.: Unknown suspects burglarized (4) storage units. The suspect(s) cut off the pad locks, entered the units and removed items.
Former UA Theater, 6330 Christie Ave.: a male suspect forced open a locked door. LOSS: None. EPD arrested the suspect shortly thereafter.

District 5:

T-Mobile, 5607 Bay St.: Two suspects entered the store and went directly to the Apple iPad display table. The suspects cut the security cables and fled with two iPads.
AMC Bay Street 16, 5614 Bay St.: An unknown suspect made several charges on a victim’s credit card.
Sunglass Hut, 5673 Bay St.: Three suspects entered the store, grabbed several pairs of sunglasses and fled the area.

District 7:

Kentucky Fried Chicken, 4501 San Pablo Ave.,:  POE: Window. LOSS: $350 cash.

District 8:

Bank of America, 4120 San Pablo Ave.: A female forged an account holder’s signature and used a counterfeit driver license in an attempt to withdraw cash. EPD arrested the suspect shortly thereafter.


RESIDENTIAL BURGLARY:

District 3:

Avenue 64, 6399 Christie Ave #332: POE: Front door – Forced open. LOSS: (2) Computers, a Playstation, Sony games, a Nikon camera, and luggage.

District 4:

Emeryville Marina, 3300 Powell St., #B00, B8, and #F60: (3) vessels were burglarized.

District 8:

111 Adeline St., #A: POE: Unknown. LOSS: A Jamis Dakar XLT 1.0 Bicycle Ser# U5YK09590, silver in color, a watch and climbing gear.

District 9:

Bridgecourt Apartments, 1331 40th St., #110: POE: Window – Screen removed. The victim was home and scared off the suspect before the suspect made entry. LOSS: None.


AUTO THEFT:

Honda Accords were popular vehicles this month. (10) Vehicles were recovered intact, (3) were recovered with damages, and (5) vehicles are still outstanding.
