Sign the “Save Cafe Aquarius” Petition on Change.org

1 min read

Sadly, an agreement between the landlord and Cafe Aquarius owner Patrick Feehan could not be reached and they will remain closed indefinitely. We held out hope that the owners would come to their senses and do what was right but we remain disappointed thus far. Patrick & his Family hosted a farewell event on Friday, Dec. 13 where hundreds stopped by to say goodbye and discuss what could be done to prevent this injustice.

Property Owners Joe and Annette Roberts & agent Thomas Southern of Cornish & Carey Commercial have opted to put their pocket books ahead of the entire community and push out a tenant that operated a successful establishment, were never delinquent on their rent and were engaged members of the community. Joe, Annette & Thomas: if you’re reading this, there is still time to “do the right thing”: Renew the “Good Faith” lease of Cafe Aquarius and preserve the goodwill of the Emeryville residents with you, your families and your businesses (and your conscience!). Perhaps you were unaware of how important Cafe Aquarius was to the community. That it was just another spot that you could plug-in another turnkey establishment without backlash and without remorse. When in fact this was a piece of Emeryville’s soul that you have crushed.

This is why I started this blog. To fight for the little guy. To utilize the democratic power of the internet to resonate our collective voices, To fight for what’s right. The E’ville Eye has created a Change.org petition to show support for Patrick and his beloved family establishment. Support democracy and our neighborhood. Sign the Petition. This will be the first of many measures we will take to remind property owners of their obligations to residents. The next step will be a boycott of any “Vulture” establishment that sets up in this space.
