“Bridge to Nowhere” Bay Bridge Bike Path delayed yet again

In what will be a surprise to no one, the “Bridge to Nowhere” Bay Bridge bike Path to Yerba Buena Island has been delayed again (was this the fifth?, six? … I’ve lost count). CalTrans is now stating mid-October for the completion of the elusive 2.2-mile path that was originally slated to be completed in fall of 2014.

Our last update posted in December had the bridge opening in Summer and a subsequent May update pushed this back to September. Last week, it was announced that this had been revised again. An oversight panel decided crews needed more time to grade, pave and stripe the road where the bike path will touch down. The landing area and parking lot to accommodate east-bound riders also remains incomplete. The path’s safety rail, observation platform and weather have all received blame for the lethargic construction of this final leg.

Once riders touch down on Yerba Buena, a temporary route will run along Hillcrest Road and Treasure Island Roads until a permanent bike path is built along Macalla Road. CalTrans has not committed to a timeline for this part of the project. But will it be in time for the Treasure Island Music Festival on October 15-16?
