August 2018 EPD Crime Report: Auto Burglaries Continue to Plague Core of Emeryville

The August 2018 Emeryville Crime Report saw 220 total crimes reported for the month (down from 241 in July or -9%).

Auto burglaries continued to be problematic accounting for over half of our city’s reported crimes with districts 3 and 5 combined comprising a majority of these reports. Overall, auto burglaries are down slightly from last year (-2%).

The steepest month-to-month declines occurred in the Grand Theft column which saw a 14% decrease. These declines are tempered by the fact that these particular crimes are up 42% for the year.

Violent Crime for the year has increased 16% from 2017 while property crime has decreased 14%. These have contributing to a net 11% decline in crime thus far this year from last.

August 1, 2018

  • An officer recovered a stolen motorcycle on West McArthur Blvd. behind the Home Depot store.
  • Citizens reported their vehicles broken into in the parking lot of the Starbucks in the Powell Street Plaza. An officer located an occupied stolen vehicle at 32nd St. and Magnolia St. The driver exited the vehicle and attempted to avoid capture. Officers located the suspect and took him into custody after a short foot pursuit. The driver was arrested for possession of the stolen vehicle, felony and misdemeanors warrants, possession of narcotics and drug paraphernalia and resisting arrest.
  • A resident in the 1000 block of 47th St. reported being assaulted by a known suspect.
  • Watergate Residents reported their vehicles broken in the parking garages of 2 Anchor Dr. and 5 Admiral Dr.
  • An officer was detailed to an apartment at 6350 Christie Ave for a cold residential burglary. An unknown suspect pried open the front door lock and stole a laptop computer.
  • An officer took an auto burglary report that occurred at 59th St and Hollis St.
  • An officer took an auto burglary report that occurred in the Denny’s parking lot.

August 2, 2018

  • A citizen reported their vehicle broken into in the parking lot of the Hilton Garden Inn.
  • Citizens reported their vehicles broken into in the parking lot of the Hyatt House.
  • A citizen reported their vehicle broken into at 66th St and Vallejo St.
  • An officer located a stolen car via License Plate Reader alert. All occupants were detained without incident. Further investigation revealed both occupants were registered owners of the car. They found their stolen car but did not report their car recovered to the police. The stolen car was taken out of the Stolen Vehicle System and released to the owners.
  • Officers were dispatched to the Watergate Apartments for an auto burglary in progress with security chasing the suspect. Officers located the suspect and detained him. A security guard saw the suspect inside a Toyota Camry. The Toyota Camry was a reported stolen car out of El Cerrito PD. The suspect was also seen inside another car ransacking the interior. The suspect was placed under arrest for possession of a stolen car, burglary, providing a false name to an officer and probation violation.

August 3, 2018

  • An officer met with a parent at the Police Administration Building on a report of bullying that occurred at the summer school program at Emeryville Center of Community Life. The mother reported her 8 year old daughter was being bullied (non-physical) and sexually harassed verbally by another 8 year old male student. Emeryville Center of Community Life school counselors are aware and have already met with both parents. A miscellaneous report was taken for documentation and review. There was no crime report taken due to the ages of the students involved.
  • An officer was detailed to 1221 40th St to meet with the parents of a 22 year old missing adult. The missing person in question possibly has undiagnosed mental disorder off near the BART station on MacArthur after having a disagreement with his parents 5 hours prior to report. The missing person’s cell phone is turned off. A missing person’s flyer was generated and disseminated to other agencies.
  • An officer was detailed to the parking stalls next to West Elm for an auto burglary.
  • Officers were detailed to Denny’s for a fight in progress inside the restaurant. The caller was uncooperative and disconnected before dispatch could get any further details. Upon officers’ arrival the involved parties had already dispersed and left the area. There was no damage to the restaurant and no reported injuries.
  • Officers responded to the Oliver Lofts for a report of domestic violence. Officers arrived on scene and met with the involved party at Pak N Save and determined the person they first detained was the suspect for the battery. The detained subject was also drunk in public. He was arrested for battery and for public intoxication. The subject was transported to jail.
  • An officer conducted a traffic enforcement stop on a car. A passenger in the car had a no-bail felony warrant. The warrant was confirmed and the passenger was arrested. The passenger was transported to jail.

August 4, 2018

  • Officers responded to 3996 San Pablo Ave. on the report of a cold commercial burglary. During the investigation the officer determined the suspect attempted to burn down the business
  • Officers responded to 3610 Peralta St. for a subject threatening to kill herself with a pair of scissors. Officers placed the subject on an emergency psychiatric hold and she was transported to a local area hospital for treatment.
  • An Officer met with a citizen reporting an auto burglary at the Hyatt Place.
  • An Officer responded to Home Depot for a subject detained for theft.
  • An Officer met with a citizen reporting an auto burglary at Black Bear Diner.
  • Officers took reports of auto burglaries in the rear of BevMo and Bay Street.
  • An officer made a traffic enforcement stop on a car at 35th and San Pablo Ave. The driver displayed symptoms of intoxication. The driver failed to perform the field sobriety tests as instructed and was placed under arrest for driving under the influence.
  • An officer located a stolen car (license plate reader hit) in the 1100 block of 55th St. The stolen car was parked and unoccupied. The stolen car was confirmed stolen and towed by Berry Brothers.

August 5, 2018

  • An officer took an auto burglary report at Bay Street.
  • An officer located a van parked in the rear of Black and White Liquors. The occupants went inside Black and White. The officer checked the registration on the van and discovered it was reported stolen out of San Leandro. The occupants were detained without incident. The driver was arrested for being in possession of a stolen car. The passenger was issued a citation for being in possession of methamphetamine.

August 6, 2018

  • Officers were dispatched to auto burglaries at Target, CVS and Park Ave and Watts St.
  • Officers were detailed to 5673 Bay St. (Sunglass Hut) for a suspect who threatened to kill the manager and refused to leave after disrupting the business. The suspect was stopped and detained by officers. The victim positively identified the suspect and believed the threats were credible. The suspect was arrested for the death threats, disruption of a business and an outstanding arrest warrant.
  • Officers were detailed to 5800 Shellmound St. for an assault with a brick. The suspect threw a 6” chunk of concrete at a couple with their 7 month old baby son in a stroller. The suspect was located, positively identified and arrested for assault with deadly weapon, child endangerment, violation of a stay away order and a probation violation. The suspect is a repeat offender. The victim in this case was struck on the lower leg and refused medical treatment on scene.
  • Officers were detailed to 3610 Peralta St for a possible domestic violence in progress. Upon officers’ arrival the suspect had already fled and was not located.
    The victim had visible injuries that included her hair being pulled out. The victim refused medical attention and an emergency protective order was granted.
  • An officer on-viewed a suspect vandalizing a K-rail on W. MacArthur Blvd. The suspect was issued a citation for vandalism and released on scene. The suspect’s spray paint cans were booked into evidence.

August 7, 2018

  • Officers responded to 6401 Shellmound St after a resident saw a stranger inside her parked car. Officers arrived quickly and detained the male, who was attempting to remove the victim’s car battery. A search of the suspect revealed suspected methamphetamine. The suspect was arrested for burglary, possession of narcotics and a violation of probation.
  • An officer was detailed to check the Public Works yard for a missing bus and driver. The bus was not there and a missing person investigation began. The driver failed to pick up a group AT&T Park in San Francisco and had not returned the bus. A short time later the missing person showed up to the Senior Center with the bus. The missing person was in good mental and physical health and was not under the influence. The missing person simply got confused with pickup times and did not have his cell phone with him to call in.
  • An officer took an auto burglary report from the Chevy’s parking lot.

August 8, 2018

  • An officer took an auto burglary report at 1012 44th St.
  • An officer took an auto burglary report at Starbucks. The loss was $3,000 in tools.
  • An officer took an auto burglary report at the Marina.
  • Forever 21 reported a grab and run theft at their store. The suspects were three females that fled in a blue KIA Optima towards the Hyatt.
  • Officers responded to a strong arm robbery at Adeline St. and Yerba Buena Ave. The victim was punched and the three suspects robbed the victim of his iPhone. The suspects were last seen by the MacArthur Bart Station. Officers checked the Bart Station and could not locate the suspects.
  • Officers were detailed to the parking lot of Panera Bread for a cold brandishing of a possible firearm. The victim was a security guard at Panera Bread and asked a customer to leave when he saw what he believed was a firearm in the waistband of the suspect. The security guard and suspect got into an argument and the suspect left the store. As the suspect walked out, the suspect pulled out what the victim believed was a firearm and brandished it towards him. The suspect got onto a bus and left the scene. The victim called 911 and the call went to the Oakland Police Department. Once the Oakland Police Department learned the crime occurred in our jurisdiction they called our dispatch and relayed the information and our officers responded. As our officer spoke to the victim, the Oakland Police Department called back and informed our dispatch they had our suspect detained at W. MacArthur Blvd and Broadway in Oakland. Our officers responded with the victim who positively identified the suspect. The weapon was not a firearm; it was replica pistol with a folding knife. Both the victim and suspect were security guards in separate jurisdictions and did not know each other. The victim wished to pursue a citizen’s arrest for brandishing a weapon at him. The suspect was arrested and issued a misdemeanor notice to appear.
  • An officer made a traffic enforcement stop on a vehicle for no license plates in the 5500 block of San Pablo Avenue. A records check of the driver revealed a no-bail warrant out of the California Department of Corrections.

August 9, 2018

  • Officers responded to 4400 Shellmound (IKEA) for a subject who threw a rock through an employee’s car window. The subject fled south through the IKEA parking lot. Officers checked the area but were unable to locate him.
  • Officers responded to 4001 Adeline Street for a report of a cold domestic violence incident. Upon the officers’ arrival they met with the reporting party that wanted to report her pregnant roommate held her down and choked her the night prior.
  • Officer made contact with the pregnant roommate and after interviewing her determined the reporting party was the primary aggressor and arrested her for domestic violence.
  • Officers responded to the area of W. MacArthur Blvd between Peralta and Hollis Streets for a report of a subject running westbound towards Hollis St with a high-powered rifle. Officers checked the area for the subject and were unable to locate the subject after an extensive search of the area. The Oakland Police Department was notified of the incident. There was only one reporting party for this incident.
  • An officer responded to 45th St and Adeline St on the report of tree branch that had fallen and damaged a parked vehicle
  • Officers responded to the Courtyard by Marriott on the report of a possible domestic violence incident. Officers made contact with a female who had a dispute with her ex-boyfriend over money. The male fled the area and refused to meet with officers, although he did speak to officers on the phone. Both parties gave conflicting statements and report was taken for documentation purposes.
  • Officers responded to Forever 21 on the report of a theft in progress. Officers arrived and detained a female for investigation. Store employees did not witness the theft and the female was released at the scene.
  • Officers responded to 1440 40th St on the report of a resident who was found deceased. The elderly resident passed away prior to being moved to hospice. The Alameda County Coroner’s Office released the deceased to her daughter for funeral arrangements.

August 10, 2018

  • An Officer met with a citizen reporting a robbery of the Burger King in the Powell Street Plaza. The suspect ordered food and handed the cashier a $10 bill. When the cashier opened the register the suspect jumped over the counter, took $140 in cash from the till and fled. The suspect is described as a male, thin, 6’02”-6’05” wearing a black beanie and black leather coat. There are no other leads at this time.
  • An officer met with a citizen reporting an auto burglary in the metered parking area of Bay Street. The officer determined there were a total of 3 vehicles that were burglarized. The suspects are described as 3 males driving a black 2dr Honda.
  • Officers were dispatched to the 5900 block of Frontage Rd. for a report of a woman acting aggressively towards citizens. The woman was charging at citizens and holding a sharp rock in her hands. Officers arrived on scene and contacted the woman. A name check on the woman revealed she had an outstanding $10,000 misdemeanor warrant. The warrant was confirmed and the woman was transported to jail.
  • An officer made a walking stop on a male subject at Home Depot for urinating in public. A name check revealed the male was a wanted person out of New York Police for dangerous drug warrant with full extradition. The warrant was confirmed and he was transported to jail.
  • A subject called the police because he was attempting suicide by taking prescription medications and mixing it with alcohol. Police contacted the subject and placed him on a psychiatric hold for evaluation.
  • Officers took several automobile burglaries at these locations: Trader Joes, 41st and Adeline, Can’t Fail Café, Broken Rack and Denny’s. There was a total of 3 auto burglaries at the Broken Rack.
  • Officers were dispatched to the Green City Lofts for a suspicious male possibly casing cars and apartments. Officers arrived on scene and stopped a subject matching the suspect’s description. The subject was on probation for gun possession with a search clause. A probation search revealed the subject was in possession of 4 shaved keys. The subject was placed under arrest for possession of burglary tools and probation violation. The subject was transported to jail.
  • An officer conducted a traffic enforcement stop on a car. The driver of the car displayed symptoms of intoxication. The driver refused to perform field sobriety tests. The driver was placed under arrest for driving under the influence. A driving under the influence blood draw warrant was granted by a Judge. The driver was transported to jail for booking and a blood draw.

August 11, 2018

  • Officers responded to Home Depot on the report of two subjects stealing multiple tool combo kits (possibly related to those on multiple TrakFlyers). Officers were in the area at the time of the call and were unable to locate the responsible parties.
  • An Officer observed a subject riding a scooter without plates in the area of 35th St. and Magnolia St. The subject parked the scooter and attempted to hide in a tent in the encampment. Officers checked the vehicle identification number of the scooter, and learned it was reported stolen. Officers located and arrested the suspect. Officers subsequently located 6.04 grams of suspected methamphetamine packaged for sales.
  • Two subjects committed a grab and run at Victoria’s Secret and fled in a silver BMW with dealer plates.
  • An officer took and auto burglary report in the Home Depot parking lot.
  • An officer took a vandalism report at the Broken Rack. Victim’s car sustained a broken window and no loss from the car.
  • An officer attempted to stop a subject to investigate a possible stolen motor scooter at Black and White Liquors. The motor scooter was parked on the sidewalk with its engine running with no ignition key. Officer contacted the subject and he fled from the officer on foot. The officer chased after the suspect on foot and during the foot pursuit the subject tossed a loaded firearm into the courtyard by Panda Express. The subject fell to the ground and the officer detained him with help from assisting officers. A search of the subject revealed he was in possession of methamphetamine, a large amount of cash, a digital scale and cell phone. Officers recovered the loaded firearm. The subject was arrested for numerous violations. The subject was transported to jail.
  • An officer on-viewed a disturbance at Denny’s. One of the involved parties gave the officer a false name and date of birth. Further investigation revealed the female’s real name and that she had a no-bail felony warrant for her arrest. The warrant was confirmed and the female was transported to Santa Rita Jail.

August 12, 2018

  • An officer responded to Lane Bryant for an auto burglary report.
  • An officer responded to the Hyatt House for a report of an auto burglary report.
  • An officer made traffic enforcement stop on 2 bicyclists. A name check on one of the subjects revealed a parole violation warrant. The warrant was confirmed. The subject was transported to jail.
  • An officer placed a person on a psychiatric hold for evaluation at the Hyatt House.
  • An officer made a traffic enforcement stop on a bicyclist. The bicyclist provided a false name to the officer. The officer discovered the subject’s real name. The subject had an outstanding felony warrant for his arrest. The warrant was confirmed. The subject was placed under arrest. The subject possessed narcotics on his person. The subject was arrested for providing a false name, the warrant and narcotics possession.

August 13, 2018

  • Officers were detailed to a residence in the 1200 block of Peabody Ln. where the upstairs neighbor reported hearing the sounds of doors slamming and possible people fighting. Officers arrived and there was no merit to the call. Both the upstairs and downstairs tenants have several prior events involving one another.
  • Officers were detailed to Panda Express for a strong arm robbery. The suspect waited for the employee to open the register and once open forced him out of the way and took cash. The suspect fled out the doors towards 40th St and went west.
  • Officers checked the area and could not locate the suspect.
  • Officers responded to the Pak N Save parking lot on a domestic violence incident in progress. Officers determined the female was the primary aggressor and she was taken into custody for domestic battery and a violation of her probation.
  • Officers responded to a residence in the 5800 block of Beaudry St on the report of a missing and suicidal subject. Emeryville officers located the suicidal subject in the 6100 block of Vallejo St. The victim was sent for a mental health evaluation.

August 14, 2018

  • Officers were detailed to the Black Bear Diner parking lot and Panera Bread lot for auto burglary reports. Four cars were broken into at the Black Bear Diner lot and one in the Panera parking lot.
  • Officers were detailed to a robbery that occurred in the area of 62nd St and Hollis St. The victim was walking to her place of employment when a female suspect approached her and demanded her property. The suspect said she had a gun in the car. The victim gave up her belongings out of fear.
  • Officers were detailed to 6401 Shellmound St building 6 at the trash area for a suspected pipe bomb. The device was deemed an explosive device and the Alameda County Sheriff’s Explosive Ordinance Disposal (EOD) was requested along with BART PD bomb detection K-9s were requested. The device was rendered safe by the EOD. BART K-9s searched area with our officers and no other devices were found.
  • Officers responded to a petty theft at Target. The arrestee was a missing juvenile out of Contra Cost County. Target declined prosecution and the officers transported the juvenile to Orinda where they transferred custody to a Contra Costa County CPS worker.

August 15, 2018

  • An officer was driving W/B on 40th Street through the intersection of Hollis Street on a green light and was hit by a driver. The patrol vehicle received moderate damage. Our officer was not injured nor was the other driver. CHP officers arrived and conducted the investigation and arrested the driver for driving under the influence.

August 16, 2018

  • Officers responded to the Guitar Center on the report of an employee embezzling over $1,700 from the business. The employee was placed under arrest and transported to jail for booking.
  • Officers responded to check for a reckless driver after a female called 9-1-1 and stated her child’s father was trying to kill her and her children by driving recklessly. Officers combed the City and notified Berkeley PD as the vehicle was supposed to be heading towards their city. Officers were unable to locate the vehicle at the time. An officer followed up and was finally able to contact the female, who stated she and the children were dropped off in Berkeley unharmed.
  • Officers responded to Black and White Liquors after a subject tried stealing items and then sat down in the store yelling at employees and refusing to leave when confronted about the attempted theft. The subject was arrested for disrupting the business.

August 17, 2018

  • An officer took an auto burglary report at Target.
  • An officer took a cold theft report at Victoria’s Secret.
  • An officer conducted a traffic enforcement stop on a car at 57th St and San Pablo Ave. The driver displayed symptoms of intoxication. The driver failed to perform field sobriety tests as instructed and was placed under arrest for driving under the influence.
  • An officer conducted a traffic enforcement stop on a car on 55th St. east of Gaskill St. The officer noticed the driver displayed symptoms of intoxication. The officer had the driver perform field sobriety tests. The driver did not perform the tests as instructed. The driver was placed under arrest for driving under the influence.

August 18, 2018

  • Officers responded to two separate auto burglary incidents; one at the Public Market and one at Black Bear Diner.
  • Dispatch received a call from San Francisco PD stating they had a 17 yr old female juvenile reporting she had been sexually assaulted on 08/17/18 at the Hilton Garden Inn, 1800 Powell St. The mother drove the daughter to Emeryville to file a report. An officer met with the juvenile and parent to take a sexual assault report at the Police Administration Building. The victim was transported to Highland Hospital for an examination and to meet with a sexual assault victim’s advocate.
  • Officers took auto burglary reports at Chevy’s and at the Public Market.
  • An officer took a residential burglary report at a residence in the 100 block of Temescal Cir.
  • An officer took a stolen car report at Allegro Ballroom. The victim’s purse was stolen and the purse contained her car keys. Victim did not know her license plate to her car and will contact EPD when she obtains the information.
  • An officer took an auto burglary report at Denny’s.

August 19, 2018

  • An Officer met with a citizen reporting having been sexually battered by a masseuse at a massage parlor in the 3900 block of San Pablo Ave.
  • Officers responded to the following locations for cold auto burglaries: 59th St/Hollis St, Black Bear Diner, Rudy’s Can’t Fail Café and Denny’s.
  • An officer conducted a vehicle stop for a traffic violation in the 4000 block of Adeline St. The passenger of the vehicle had two warrants for his arrest and was subsequently transported to jail for the warrants.

August 20, 2018

  • An officer met with a citizen reporting an auto burglary near the intersection of 59th St. and Hollis St.
  • Officers responded to Ulta for a theft in progress. Officers located the subject fleeing the area on foot and detained him. Subject was subsequently issued a citation and released.
  • An officer met with a citizen reporting an auto burglary in the parking lot of Panera Bread.
  • Officers were detailed to the Wells Fargo Bank (5801 Christie Ave.) for a suspect trying to cash a fictitious check. The suspect was detained in the bank by officers. The check was over $950 and was verified as fraudulent. The suspect was arrested.
  • An officer took an auto burglary report that occurred in the parking lot of Nordstrom’s Rack.
  • An officer was detailed to 37th St and San Pablo Ave for a cold stolen vehicle report. The victim located her vehicle parked and unoccupied on Linden St at the intersection of 37th St. The victim had left her keys at her business and the suspect took the keys and her car. The vehicle was recovered and released on the scene to the victim.
  • Officers three auto burglaries. The burglaries occurred at 5903 Shellmound St, 1776 Powell Street and 5749 Horton Street.

August 21, 2018

  • A citizen reported his vehicle’s license plates stolen while his vehicle was parked in the Pak N Save lot.
  • Officers were detailed to Peets Coffee at the Public Market for the theft of laptop computer.
  • Officers were detailed to a theft at Bay Street outside West Elm. The victim stated her ex-boyfriend forcibly took her make up bag by pulling the bag out of her hands and fled on foot. Officers checked the area and the suspect was not located. The victim did not know the suspect’s true name; a robbery report was taken. The victim was not injured.
  • Officers took two auto burglary reports. One occurred in the Target parking lot; the second occurred in the Hyatt House.
  • Officers conducted a trespasser sweep of the Red Tagged Nady Systems building. Officers used the patrol vehicle PA system to make several announcements. The information included the red tag dangerous structure information and trespassing.
  • Officers counted seven people exit the building after the announcements. Officers also entered the building and took video of the illegal living areas. There were several rooms that had hundreds of uncapped, used hypodermic needles, meth ready to snort on a sheet of glass that had been abandoned, feces everywhere and three of the rooms had makeshift fire places. The entire perimeter of the building is unsecure as is the perimeter fence.
  • Officers responded to two auto burglaries at the Bay Street garage and 6401 Shellmound Street garage.

August 22, 2018

  • Citizens reported their vehicles being broken into at the following locations: Denny’s parking lot and at Rotten City Pizza.
  • An officer took a report of a collision involving an automobile and a bicyclist at 67th St. and Shellmound St.
  • Officers were detailed to IKEA for a subject masturbating. Officers contacted the subject inside the store and arrested him for lewd conduct.
  • Officers took three auto burglary reports that occurred throughout the city; Target, the Public Market, & 4500 block of Doyle St.
  • Officers three vandalism reports. Two were to automobiles and one was to the south doors of Panda Express. A security officer at the East Bay Bridge Center saw the suspect pulling on the doors which caused visible damage. Officers arrived and the suspect was placed under citizen’s arrest. A citation was issued, and he was released. The vandalisms to vehicles occurred in the Denny’s and Expressions College parking lots.
  • An officer made an enforcement stop on an occupied stolen vehicle in the 3600 block of Adeline Street. The suspect was taken into custody without incident and transported to jail.

August 23, 2018

  • A Pak n Save employee reported a subject was swinging at people and officers attempted to contact the subject to perform a mental evaluation on him. The subject refused to stop for police officers and ran into the street. Officer followed the subject and attempted to detain him at 34th St. and Adeline St. The subject attempted to run out into traffic and the officers took the subject into custody after a short struggle. The subject was transported to the hospital for a psychiatric evaluation.
  • Officers were dispatched to Sunglass Hut on a theft that just occurred. officers arrived and located the subjects. The subjects were positively identified as thefts suspects and the loss was recovered. The suspects were cited and released for the petty theft.
  • There were reports of auto burglaries in the parking lots of the Black Bear Diner, Jamba Juice and Chevy’s restaurant.
  • An officer was detailed to the Police Administration Building to meet with a female regarding a domestic battery report. The officer was able to ascertain the victim and her boyfriend got into an altercation at 3815 San Pablo Ave the day prior. The victim became uncooperative and adamantly refused to provide the location of her boyfriend’s whereabouts. A domestic violence report was taken. The victim was not injured.
  • Officers responded to four auto burglaries in the Denny’s parking lot.
  • An officer responded to a strong-arm robbery at the intersection of 64th and Doyle Streets.
  • Officers conducted another sweep of the Nady building this morning. Four subjects were located inside and told to leave the property.

August 24, 2018

  • A Lieutenant and detectives responded to Nady Systems to assist City staff with a walkthrough of the building to remove squatters. Six people were located and escorted off the premises.
  • An Officer responded to the Marina for a report of a stolen pick-up truck.
  • An Officer met with a citizen reporting an auto burglary in the 1400 block of Park Ave.
  • An officer took a report of threats and a brandishing of a knife at a residence in the 5500 block of Vallejo St. The victim stated her nephew threatened her and brandished a knife at her.
  • An officer conducted a traffic enforcement stop on a bicyclist at 35th St. and Adeline St. The bicyclist admitted to having drug paraphernalia on him. The bicyclist was issued a Notice to Appear for the violation.
  • An officer took a report of a strong-armed robbery of the Wing Stop restaurant. The suspects fled in a Chrysler or Dodge sedan and a black Subaru truck.
  • A citizen reported her sister threatened to kill her and harm the police officers that were responding to their apartment. The citizen reported her sister suffers from a prior mental illness and requested assistance. Officers arrived on scene and the sister was transported to the hospital for a psychiatric evaluation.
  • An officer conducted a traffic enforcement stop on a vehicle at 34th St. and Adeline St. A name check on the passenger revealed he had an outstanding felony warrant. The warrant was confirmed and the passenger was arrested.

August 25, 2018

  • Three suspects wearing masks ran into the Apple Store, grabbed $15,000 worth of merchandise and fled.
  • There was a report of a water main break at the Marina Turn Around and Public Works and EBMUD were notified.
  • A day prior the victim reported her nephew threatened her and brandished a knife at her. Today the nephew returned to the victim’s residence and the police were called to the scene. The nephew was placed under arrest for the criminal threats and transported to North County Jail.
  • Firefighters responded to two fires in Temescal Creek Park near the 53rd St. entrance and the fires were extinguished. Small articles were found burned at the location and there was no suspect information. Fire dispatch also received reports of a male pouring lighter fluid on a patch of grass and lighting it near 5301 Adeline St. in the city of Oakland. The information was referred to the Oakland Police Department and the Oakland Fire Department.
  • An officer was dispatched to an auto collision at 43rd St. and San Pablo Ave. The officer contacted one of the drivers who displayed symptoms of intoxication. The driver failed to perform field sobriety tests as instructed and was placed under arrest for driving under the influence.
  • An officer conducted a traffic enforcement stop on a car on the 6000 block of San Pablo Ave. The driver displayed symptoms of intoxication. The driver failed to perform field sobriety tests as instructed and was placed under arrest for driving under the influence.
  • An officer conducted a suspicious vehicle check at 35th St. and Magnolia St. A license plate check revealed the vehicle was stolen. The occupant of the vehicle was arrested for being in possession of a stolen vehicle.

August 26, 2018

  • Officers responded to two separate incidents involving welfare checks on people who were subsequently placed on emergency psychiatric holds.
  • Officers responded to CVS for a theft in progress. Officers made contact with the subject prior to her leaving, convincing her to return the concealed items to the store. The women complied and left the store.
  • Officers responded to an alarm at 1275 61st Street. A female juvenile and male adult were found loitering on school property. The male was released at the scene and female juvenile was turned over to her mother.
  • An officer responded to an auto burglary at Denny’s.

August 27, 2018

  • An officer took a missing person report of a 20-year female from 6401 Shellmound St. This subject was placed on an emergency psychiatric hold early Saturday morning by our officers; however the female was released by the local facility later the same day. Her mother and father last saw her Sunday morning and she seemed fine. When they could not reach her, they went to her residence. All local hospitals were checked with negative on any locates. A missing person’s flyer was generated and sent to all bay area law enforcement agencies.
  • A woman reported her vehicle was broken into while parked at Shorebird Park.
  • Officers conducted another three security checks of the Nady property throughout the shift. Six trespassers were seen leaving the building and later in the morning three were seen going back onto the property.

August 28, 2018

  • Dispatch received information regarding a missing person report that was filed yesterday. The missing person was reported to be on a psychiatric evaluation in a clinic in San Jose. Dispatch contacted the clinic and it was confirmed. San Jose PD was notified and the missing person was removed from the system.
  • A victim reported being assaulted by her ex-boyfriend and requested police assistance. Officers arrived on the scene and arrested the ex-boyfriend for a domestic battery.
  • Officers were detailed to several auto burglaries that occurred in the area of the Bay St garages (three cars) and Public Market area (another 3 cars).
  • Officers were detailed to a domestic violence incident in the Target parking lot between a male and female. A witness saw the male half yelling and pushing a female near a parked car. The male threw the females purse and kicked the side of the female’s car. Our officers located and contacted both parties. The female admitted to having an argument with her separated husband who kicked the side of her car; however, she became uncooperative and denied anything physical occurred. From the witness statement and corroborated damage to the car the male was placed under arrest for domestic violence. The male was also on parole for robbery and a hold was placed on him by his parole officer.
  • Officers were detailed to the Nady building on a report by a person who works in the area of trespassers on site. Upon arrival no trespassers were located. It appeared the board up process has already begun; however, there was no board up crew on site. There are several open points of access to the building; portions of what looked like the start of a board up were not properly secured and boards hung loose from the apparent attempt of securing them to the building. The fence line still has large holes or missing fence all together which appeared to have grown in size from less than a week. There are still two large homeless camps on the outside of the fence line at the back of the property along the off ramp/shoulder area. Officers walked through the warehouse and did not locate anyone.
  • officers responded to 1100 block of Park Ave for a domestic violence between two subjects. The male was arrested and transported to jail.
    An officer on viewed a multi-car collision on the freeway and stopped to render aid if needed. The officer remained on scene until relieved by California Highway Patrol officers.

August 29, 2018

  • Anna Yates Elementary School representatives reported a suspected child abuse case and an officer documented the case. Child Protective Services was notified of the incident.
  • Citizens reported a male was assaulting a female in the Public Marina and officers arrived on the scene. Based on the victim’s and witnesses’ statements the male was determined to be the primary aggressor. The male was arrested and transported to North County Jail.
  • An officer was detailed to the Public Market for an auto burglary.
  • An officer was detailed to an auto burglary at the Bay Stret garage behind Sephora.
  • An officer made a traffic enforcement stop in the 4000 block of San Pablo Ave. The driver was arrested for driving under the influence and transported to county jail.
  • An officer made a traffic enforcement stop in the 1400 block of Powell Street. The driver was arrested for driving under the influence and transported to county jail.
  • An officer responded to an auto burglary reported at the AMC Theatre garages.
  • An officer responded to the report a car that had been stolen from the 6400 Christie Ave garage.

August 30, 2018

  • There was a verbal dispute at the Bridgecourt Apartments regarding a lost dog and both parties were contacted. The parties’ information was collected, and Animal Control was notified of the incident. Over the course of two days, Animal Control and Officers attempted to mediate the situation by contacting the parties for follow-up investigation. Eventually the lost dog was reunited with the owner and his family.
  • Officers were dispatched to the Hilton Garden Inn regarding a possible subject who was mentally ill, and officers contacted the subject in the lobby. The subject was transported to the hospital for a psychiatric evaluation.
  • A citizen reported his Honda motorcycle stolen from the parking garage of Avenue 64.
  • Officers took several traffic accidents throughout city; one complaint of pain and two non-injury accidents.
  • Officers were detailed to pool area of 1465 65th St for a group of ten people fighting. Upon arrival no one was fighting the residents of the complex were playing water polo in the pool.

August 31, 2018

  • Officers responded to auto burglaries in the Chevy’s parking lot, Bevmo and three at Bay Street.
  • An officer was flagged down at the Oaks Card Club concerning a cold report of a battery which occurred at Black and White Liquors. The victim and a male were involved in an argument and the male suspect punched the female victim. The suspect fled the scene in a dark colored van. The victim requested a police report and wanted to pursue criminal charges.
  • An officer made a driving under the influence arrest at San Pablo Ave. and Alcatraz. The officer on-viewed the suspect stopped at a stop signal light with the car in drive and the engine running and the driver was sleeping at the wheel. The suspect did not perform the field sobriety tests as instructed and was placed under arrest for driving under the influence.
  • Officers conducted extra patrol at Nady Systems.

  1. Did EPD stop providing a summary or did the EvilleEye decide to switch to the report from the CoE Progress Report?

    And what will it take to get suspect descriptions?

    • Thank you both for your comments. EPD is still providing these. I’ll add back in. I wanted to see what the reaction was but agree that it’s a bit copy-heavy.

  2. I prefer the previous method of reporting. This new method is too detailed and takes too long to digest.

  3. The full list would be good with a little editing or highlighting and subject descriptions. If they were organized by type of crime rather than date, it would be really valuable.

    I think you could condense or even remove everything but the locations of the auto burglaries. The traffic stops and DUIs also aren’t very useful.
