Another missing piece in Emeryville’s dining portfolio has been filled … SUSHI! (with apologies to MiYozen) KYU 2 brings another needed dining option to our 10,000+ residents and 30,000 strong daytime workforce. Adjacent to the Hollis & 65th Starbucks in a space previously occupied by a Subway chain (which has since moved directly across the street), KYU 2 and Executive Chef Adisorn Khamtalob held their “Soft Opening” on Tuesday October 8th. Hollis St. is probably considered Emeryville’s main artery across town and seems to be thriving with the recent additions of Bureau 510, Honor Bar & Jasmine Blossom within the last couple years. Perhaps the “Critical Mass” of people needed to support these establishments has finally been achieved and we can look forward to even more dining options in our town.
Kyu Sushi & Robata, a well-respected SF sushi restaurant in the Tenderloin, promises “high quality fresh ingredients, friendly services, beautiful decor, and stunning food presentation”. From their website: “We believe that the definition of good food does not start and end just on the taste bud. We believe that delicious food is a combination of everything that is wonderful around you until the moment you taste the food. We aimed to bring you wonderful food experience the moment you walk through our door. Our ingredients are fresh daily, and our chefs are extremely passionate about quality.” The SF establishment has some pretty solid Yelp reviews so we’re optimistic this will carry over to their E’ville implementation.
Listed amongst their rolls are the standard Spider, Dragon and Rainbow rolls but they also list a variety of signature rolls including the KYU, That’s Roll & “Toshi Roll” which consists of Spicy Tuna, Tempura bits, crab, albacore & Masago (looking forward to trying that one). In addition to rolls, they will serve Nigiri , Sashimi, assorted Bento Boxes and the popular 8 oz. KYU steak shown above. KYU serves both Japanese tap & bottled beer as well as a variety of Japanese Saki. The reclaimed wood rustic Interior looked intimate and best of all, a patio area that is dog-friendly. A couple large flat screen TV’s will broadcast popular local sporting events. KYU2 also has take-out and has plans for delivery within Emeryville ($25 minimum order).
