Last week she broke the news that Minnie Bell’s Soul Food would be replacing the former Nyum Bai stall at the Public Market. This week she got the scoop on two significant developments along the Adeline corridor on our eastern border.
Hometown Heroes Sports Bar to Propaganda Space
Last month, we noted that Propaganda Gastropub had abruptly shuttered along with other announcements. Propaganda Owner Kiet Truong confirmed that he had sold the bar, but the new owners would be maintaining it as a restaurant space.
East Bay Express broke the news that a South S.F. sports bar called Hometown Heroes has acquired Propaganda’s lease and would be opening their second location at 4000 Adeline St.
The kitchen will be run by Likha Oakland who have been operating as a roaming Filipino food pop-up. Likha translates as “to create” in Tagalog.
In what might be considered a slight to E’ville, Likha made the announcement via Instagram that they would be “opening soon in Oakland” with our neighboring city’s logo and iconic cranes.
Likha’s “Filipino inspired, California driven” menu will feature traditional and modern takes on Filipino fare including adobo fried rice, longanisa and Spam burgers.
The Emeryville Hometown Heroes is expected to open in May.

Navi Kitchen scraps dinner service, adds ‘Chicken & Waffles’ to menu
After rolling out evening hours back in July of last year, Navi Kitchen has opted to eliminate dinner service to focus on breakfast, lunch & takeout. “Breakfast, lunch, dinner — it was trying to do too many things,” Chef Preeti Mistry says in the piece. “This gives us focus.” Navi Kitchen will continue serving a limited selection of their unique Indian pizzas for pick-up. Mistry recently sold her Temescal neighborhood Juhu Beach Club (coincidentally to another Filipino pop-up).
Navi has also added Dosa ‘Waffles’ to its menu. Dosa is a fermented batter of rice and black gram and the rough equivalent of an Indian pancake or crepe.
Navi will also introduce $10 half pies and partially-baked pizzas that neighbors can pick up and finish cooking at home.
Navi’s new hours will be Tuesday through Sunday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. (closed on Mondays).
