It’s kind of been one step forward, two steps backward in regards to Openings/Closures in Emeryville’s Triangle neighborhood lately. Well, they’re about a take a big step forward with the announced opening of a new Vietnamese Banh Mi establishment at the new 3900 Adeline Development. News has also broke that the former Furenzo/Cafe Bier/Commonwealth space will be illuminated once again. In addition, Noodle Theory Provisions on San Pablo Avenue in Oakland’s Golden Gate neighborhood has announced that they are nearly ready to open their doors to the public.

Noodle Theory Provisions

Noodle Theory first announced their intent to expand to Oakland’s Golden Gate neighborhood back in March, 2015. One year later, they are nearly ready to open their doors to the public. Chef/Owner Louis Kao and his brother have transformed the neglected, but beautiful original brick facade building on San Pablo Avenue that was once the Eastern City Cafe. They’ve been teasing us with their progress through their Facebook page and finally announced their intent to soft-open on Monday, March 14th [Note: Originally stated as Sunday 3/13].

Noodle theory will open with the same menu as their Rockridge location including their signature Niman Ranch Beef Udon in Coconut Lime Curry Broth and the Tofu & Veggies Garlic Noodles. Unlike the Rockridge location, they will have a full liquor license. “Louis will definitely bring that bold flavor our food is known for to our new bar.” noted General Manager Jennifer Avelino through email. We’ve been assured that they’ll be rolling out new dishes as well.

Patatas

Commonwealth Micropub closed their doors right before the Holidays noting they would be actively seeking someone to resume their lease after surviving less than a year. Berkeleyside’s NOSH column is reporting that nearby resident and Chef Marcos Quezada will be transforming the space into a Pan-Latin restaurant called “Patatas”. Quezada currently runs a catering business under the same name. The cuisine will reportedly have roots in South American cuisines serving foods such as stews, seafood & paella. No timetable was provided.

Banh Mi Joint

The proprietor of Oakland’s popular Monster Pho has signed a lease and will be opening on the corner unit of the newly developed 3900 Adeline establishment. Chef Tee Tran has made a splash with the success of his noodle soup establishment and is looking to branch out to other Vietnamese cuisine staples. “We’ll be serving fingers foods such as fresh spring rolls, saigon egg rolls, homestyle fried chicken wings” noted Tran through email. “We will also be serving Vermicelli noodle bowls with grilled meat or vegetarian option to top it off. I wanted to keep the menu as simple as possible so that we can much better quality control of all our meats and vegetables.”
