Expanded Apple Bay Street Emeryville Store Confirmed

1 min read

A day before Apple is expected to unveil its latest iPhone model, the local news is that Apple Bay Street will be expanding into the former Pottery Barn space. Many have inquired about that mysterious black facade at the former Pottery Barn Space at 5640 Bay Street. Speculation has been rampant including rumors of a Tesla store or perhaps a new restaurant. The E’ville Eye confirmed through a public records request that Apple Inc. filed and obtained a non-structural partitions & ceilings permit with the city earlier this year. Plant Construction has been performing the renovation of the space that has a valuation of over $3,000,000.

The expanded space seems to be in line with Apple’s next-generation premium makeover initiated by new Apple SVP Angela Ahrendts. These new stores boast updates including natural oak tables, living plants, rotating artwork and more hands-on areas. Apple stores are notoriously profitable and have the highest retail sales per square foot, with average in all their stores of $6,050 per square foot annually.

The facade was removed on Wednesday, August 31st to reveal this familiar framing.

Apple opened its first retail store in 2001 and now has 485 retail stores across 17 countries, including 270 in the U.S. and 215 abroad. No information was provided by Bay Street what will go into the space vacated by the existing Apple Store. Apple actually removed the “store” from their branding recently so “Apple Bay Street” will be the official name.

The 8,700 sq. ft. store will be nearly twice as large as the previous store. According to SF Business Times, the store will feature a 50-foot green wall, living trees to line the Genius “Grove” customer support area and a 42-ft. high sliding glass doors.

The Grand Opening is slated for September 10th at 10 a.m.. The official announcement was sent by Apple today:
