A few updates at the Bay Street Emeryville Shopping Center since our last update back in September including the addition of an Xfinity Store, a Nigerian clothing store and a new VR gaming concept.

GRAND OPENING: Comcast Xfinity Store

Comcast’s consumer brand ‘Xfinity’ opened a retail location at the former site of Charming Charlie which shuttered last year. The stores are part of a 2018 initiative to open more than 50 stores in high-traffic shopping centers across their service footprint.

The stores offer current and prospective customers the opportunity to ‘test drive’ their line-up of products that include mobile, internet, TV and Smart Home products. Customers can also exchange and upgrade equipment.

Bay Street announced a ‘Grand Opening’ event on March 2nd with an appearance by former Golden State Warrior and current NBC Bay Area Sports commentator Kelenna Azubuike.

OPEN: Ray Darten

Ray Darten opened their first store at the former White House Black Market location that shuttered last year. The store’s name is a wordplay on creator Yetunde Olukoya’s three children’s native Yoruba names, pronounced eRAY, DARa & TENi. Olukoya is a former medical doctor who turned her passion into clothing design.

The store features unique African clothing and accessories that are sourced from and handmade in Nigeria. Ray Darten notes their mission as “telling stories of our magnificent Nigerian culture and heritage” in the About Us section of their website. In addition to featuring clothing for women, they also offer mens, children’s and paternity clothing.

COMING SOON: GameDay VR

A long-persisting rumor of a gaming arcade has finally been confirmed with the installation of outdoor signage. GameDay VR is currently building out a new location at the long-vacant corner storefront across from The Gap. They opened their “flagship” location in downtown Walnut Creek in 2017 and also have planned locations in Pleasanton.

The company rents virtual reality gaming equipment by the hour and has space available for group events. They also deliver VR experiences to your home or office for special occasions.

Their Walnut Creek location features an eSports lab for team video game play and tournaments and features special PC gaming stations equipped with ergonomic keyboards, chairs and high-quality audio headphones. No word yet on an opening date or if the eSports lab will be available at their Emeryville location.
