A Call for Entries: E’ville’s 27th Annual Art Exhibition
I’ve been told that Emeryville boasts more artists per capita than any other city in the state. Surely this number has been reduced over the decades as the once vast open-studio space has been replaced with the development of condominiums & retail, but creativity still runs deeply through the veins of our town. It is this history that makes our annual art exhibition a diverse, eclectic showcase of the talent that residents and employee’s of our city possess. The annual event was struck a blow recently when its to-be permanent home, The Emeryville Center for the Arts, was the victim of the elimination of Redevelopment funds. For now, the event will continue its vagabond ways of being shifted around the city from venue-to-venue and this year’s event is still without a home.
Per the City Newsletter:
The 27th Annual Emeryville Celebration of the Arts Exhibition is inviting artists and craftspeople living in and/or working in Emeryville to submit works for consideration for the upcoming juried art exhibit to be held October 5-27, 2013. Applications must be received on June 7, 2013. Visual as well as performance art will be considered for inclusion in the exhibition. There is no entry fee to apply, but artists/craftspeople that are selected to be part of the exhibition must volunteer a minimum of 3.5 hours or pay a $75 fee to this community event.
Selection of work will be by studio, home, or workplace visit or at the Celebration of the Arts’ office. Work will be viewed ONLY in Emeryville. CDs of work may be submitted instead of a studio visit and studio/work visits will be through assigned appointments. Only works not previously shown at the Exhibit will be eligible and applicants are encouraged to show work completed in the last five years. Artists will be notified in early August about whether their work was selected.
Gala Reception: Friday, October 4, 6-9 p.m.
Show Dates: October 5 – 27
Location: To be determined.
