E’ville Celebration of the Arts open through October 27th

1 min read

Emeryville has so few “traditions” that it’s encouraging to see the annual celebration going strong. Now in its 27th year, the exhibit returns to Bay Street at the long vacant corner unit across from the Gap. This year’s space is being donated by Bay Streets owner & property manager, Madison Marquette.

Every May, the city holds a call for entries that lasts until Early June. Criteria for Selection is that you live or work in Emeryville. First held in 1987, this exhibition was initially conceived as an event to recognize the City’s active and visionary partnership with the 45th Street Artists’ Cooperative. With the aid of a Redevelopment Agency loan, the Cooperative was able to purchase its warehouse and the City played a major role in stabilizing the live/work environment so vital to its creative community. While the concept of the Exhibition began as a celebration of this partnership (and some of the original artists from the Co-op continue to submit work for inclusion in the Exhibition) it quickly expanded to embrace the entire artist population of Emeryville. Now any artist who either lives or works in Emeryville can submit their artwork for consideration for the Annual Exhibition.

The gala public reception with the artists in attendance is featured a no-host bar will help raise funds for the Emeryville Youth Art Program.
